SEAA Indoor Championships & London Indoor Games
The past couple of weekends have been particularly busy for athletes with the indoor season in full swing. We are so lucky to have a facility like Lee Valley on our doorstep and quite a number of athletes have taken advantage of the opportunities.
Two weeks ago, was the age group championships for the Southern Counties and this past weekend was the London Indoor Games.
SEAA CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Kitty, Amelia, and Saoirse all took part in the U15 60m hurdles and all ran well. It was Amelia’s first ever competition and Kitty set a PB.
Cian ran well in the U13 800m and also set a PB. He also jumped in the U13 long jump competition and ran in the 60m. The long jump needs some work it is fair to say, but the 60m went well. He set yet another PB.
60m events were very busy and Harlow had quite a few more athletes beyond Cian at U13:
At U15 60m, Amelia and Saoirse both posted PBs.
In the U17s, Tommy made the semi-finals, and Sammy made it all the way through to the finals. Tommy’s best time was 7.49 on the day. Sammy ran 7.13 to qualify for the final and manged 7.17 for fifth overall. And for the girls, Tia and Holly both ran PBs.
On Day Two, there were several returnees for new events. Amelia was 31/40 in the U15 long jump, and I know there is more to come. Tia PBd in the U17 200m and Manny was fifth in the U17 800m in a quick, but not quite PB time. Tommy qualified for the semi final of the 200m in a time just outside his outdoor PB.
LONDON INDOOR GAMES:
On Sunday of the weekend just past, we had two girls in U17 action at the London Indoor Games. Gift was making her indoor debut and was a little nervous. Keira was out for her first run of the winter. Gift set a PB in round one and Keira went lower than her entry time of 8.70, although we both think she has a different and lower time that doesn’t seem to be recorded.
All in all, the times and performances show that these athletes have worked hard in the winter and are in good places as we head into outdoor mode. I was very proud of all of them and especially Sammy and Tommy: their running was strong, but they were also there supporting all the athletes there on the day. They both made good cases for reintroducing Junior Captains.
Well done, everyone!
